I launched Islam Today this year because I saw a gap in the public discourse on Muslims and Islam in America and around the world. A gab being filled by disinformation, right wing extremism, and dehumanization. I could not let that stand.
This year we have accomplished a great deal to counter that hate and disinformation. I am immensely grateful to each of you for making this vision a reality. And I am incredibly excited to share with you in this short article what we hope to accomplish in 2026—with your continued support.
Countering Hate With Humanity
We’ve seen the consequences of hate and disinformation against Islam and Muslims. For example, a Brown University study estimates that the post 9/11 wars have killed between 4.5-4.7 million Muslim civilians. A truly incomprehensible number, made worse by how little reporting exists on this ongoing atrocity.
And here’s an even more frightening truth—the hate I’m seeing right now is by orders of magnitude worse than the hate we saw after 9/11. We cannot afford a repeat of history. My goal with Islam Today is to write a narrative of understanding, of education, and of justice. And while we have a long way to go yet to counter disinformation and hate in full, we have already accomplished much in just the few months since we launched. This year alone we’ve:
Published 50 thoughtful pieces on Islam on topics like Jihad, economic justice, the rights of Christians, and more.
Earned more than 5,300 subscribers nationwide and from all over the world.
Been read by more than 150,000 readers.
All with a paywall free platform. In fact, we will never paywall our writing, because education should be accessible to all people regardless of background.
And we’re just getting started.
Islam Today Tomorrow In 2026
We have plans to dramatically grow Islam Today in 2026. Below I share our three big vision projects. And if you are in a position to become a paying subscriber, you will be seismic in helping us achieve these goals.
Book Reviews: A weekly series every Sunday relating a chapter of either a book on Islam I am reading, or a book I have myself written. This is inspired by the fact that the very first word of the Qur’an ever reveled was “Iqra,” which means “to read or recite.” I am a big fan of book clubs, and I’m so excited to launch this feature in 2026.
Podcast: An Islam Today podcast with scholars of Islam and various faith leaders to better build interfaith dialogue and understanding at a time of immense fear and misinformation. This is inspired by Prophet Muhammad (sa) inviting Christians to dialogue and worship in his very mosque. Any time we can increase interfaith dialogue, we are building a better humanity.
Dialogue: Soon, I’d like to schedule periodic zoom calls for more real time discussion and dialogue, and to better build our community of thoughtful readers.
Each of these projects takes time, resources, and effort. And I am committed to doing each of them because they will all help advance the purpose of Islam Today—that is—to counter hate and disinformation with compassion, education, and community.
Closing Note
Islam Today exists due to your support. If you have the means to become a paid subscriber, I am immensely grateful. If you are unable, please know that your presence here is cherished just as much. I am so fortunate for this community of thoughtful people. Thank you all for your amazing support in 2025. As we enter 2026, I wish you a safe, blessed, and happy New Year. Let us continue our Jihad for education, together.
